The city of Nicosia in Cyprus is the capital of both Northern Cyprus and Southern Cyprus. The city was founded approximately 2255 years ago. According to Assyrian sources from the 7th century BC, Nicosia then used to be a city named Ledra.
There are numerous historical places to visit in the city. The Selimiye Mosque, formerly Cathédrale Sainte Sophie is one of the main tourist atttractions located in the Turkish side of Nicosia.
